ARF Imperium provides specialist resin flooring removal, controlled demolition and deck preparation — delivered by our DemoPro team, led by Directors Shayne Berry and Lee Berry, who bring over two decades of hands-on experience in both resin removal and resin installation.
Our removal techniques are capable of selectively removing individual resin layers, multiple accumulated layers, or complete flooring systems down to the steel or aluminium substrate. This allows existing deck build-ups to be rationalised rather than repeatedly overlaid, a practice that can occur on operational vessels due to programme constraints.
We assess the condition of the existing deck and recommend the right approach. Where a clean start is required, we remove every layer down to bare steel — the ideal foundation for inspection, repair and new coating installation, and the point at which underlying steel condition can be properly checked. Where the existing build-up is sound, we remove the top resin layer only, preserving the sound underlayer beneath for faster programme times, lower cost, and an extended service life for the existing deck.
The accumulation of multiple resin layers, particularly on upper decks, can result in unnecessary weight increase, with implications for vessel stability, performance, and long-term asset management. By removing redundant layers prior to reinstallation, we enable weight net zero installations, or better, while improving system performance and substrate condition.
Our modified vacuum removal system extracts waste material directly into designated containers at the point of removal, eliminating 90% or more of the existing flooring in a single continuous process and removing up to 10mm of material in a single machine pass. On a recent project, a five-person team removed approximately 6,000 kg of resin from 500 m² of deck, averaging 10mm in depth, in just three working days.
All removed materials are managed in a controlled manner, with appropriate segregation and processing for recycling. Where feasible, recovered resin materials are repurposed for use in next-generation levelling and compound systems, supporting waste reduction and environmentally responsible project delivery.
Following removal, we carry out a full survey of the remaining underlayment before the installation team arrives, flagging any concerns on-site so they don’t impact the installation programme or the new system’s longevity. Steel and aluminium sub-decks are then mechanically prepared to the required specification to support new marine resin flooring and decking installations — reducing installation risk, improving adhesion and system performance, and supporting predictable delivery during refit and dry-dock periods.
